Constructive Construction Conversation

Constructive Construction Conversation

The exhibition invites Lilian Enders Libeiro, a German artist currently based in Lisbon. "Constructive Construction Conversation" is her work while she lived in Shanghai and Hangzhou. It'll be on display for the first time in Taiwan. She met the curator in Shanghai, and collaborated in several impromptu artistic actions. Both are concerned about the ubiquitous construction sites in China. Construction sounds are everywhere. The video project in which she danced with the noise on multiple sites have been exhibited in Kiel, Germany and in Lisbon, Portugal. She has been to Taiwan and is willing to come back again to perform and produce new works.

Video work: Constructive Construction Conversation
It appeared in the artist's solo exhibition in Kiel, Germany and Lisbon, Portugal.

During her study in China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, she felt that China was becoming a huge construction site. As a pregnant female artist, she used her body to start a dialogue with each construction site. One of the main video was shot in front of a large road-side billboard with a slogan "Unite Architecture and Human Being."

"I am dancing to the sounds of counstruction sites. There is no street in a Chinese city without one. Buildings being torn down, rebuilt or new buildings are just shooting out of nowhere day and night. Tragic stories of people being relocated especially from city centers where homes are being taken away in exchange for a standard apartment in the outskirts of cities. Those new housing projects can create better living conditions, but you lose your community and the unreplacable feeling of your home. As soon as a building gets marked with the sign chai 拆 (=tear down, see foto above) by the cityhall it will sooner or later be demolished. Daily life in China is marked by this construction-mania. Dust, dirt and especially noise together with big advertising billbords are shaping the urban reality of any city in China nowadays.

I am dancing to make visible these ubiquitous noises which merge into the sounds of the city, the constant noise we got so much used to."
